Haraldur Raises Money For Yazan
Haraldur Thorleifsson, participated in the Icelandic Marathon in the name of Yazan Tamimi. Yazan is an eleven-year-old boy from Palestine and has muscular dystrophy like Haraldur.
Icelandic authorities had planned to deport Yazan and his family. “He has stopped being able to walk, needs help breathing, needs heart medication. This has a huge impact,” said Kristbjörg Arna E. Þorvaldsdóttir, Yazan’s relative and a member of No Borders in Iceland, in an interview with in June. Yazan’s symptoms are said to be very bad compared to his peers and he gets worse under stress.
Haraldur raised $12,000 and doubled the amount personally, all in raising $24,000 for Yazan to help him and his family get settled and fight for their right to live in peace.
The Icelandic government ultimately relented and announced they had agreed to grant asylum for Yazan and his family.
