Iceland Donates $500k Towards Building 1000 Ramps In Ukraine

Today a deal was signed between Þorgerður Katrín, the Icelandic Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Haraldur Thorleifsson, the founder of Ramp up.

“There was simply no other option but to loyally support this important initiative of Halli in Ukraine. We now aim to build a thousand ramps in Ukraine, where the need is truly urgent after more than three years of defensive struggle by the Ukrainian people against the bloody war of conquest by Russia,” says Þorgerður Katrín. “The violence has of course left many wounded and injured, not least soldiers who have been injured on the battlefield defending their nation from Russian aggression.”

The project is planned to take up to four years with ramps being built in multiple locations in Ukraine. The project initially started with a plan to build 100 ramps in Lviv, a city in East Ukraine.

“This project exceeded all expectations in Iceland, so I started looking at whether we could take the model outside. It’s often difficult to watch the news about these big events happening in the world and not find a way to help,” says Haraldur. “There’s a need and a solution coming together, and now funding and we can do something to alleviate this suffering. Iceland is a peaceful country and this is a peaceful gift.”
